Good skincare is a necessity!

We've all seen our skin change with time. What some of us don't know are all of the things that can cause that change. I'm not going to get into all of them, but I will touch on the most common.

I didn't start taking care of my skin until I was in my forties. I did all of the things we're NOT supposed to do. I didn't wear sunscreen, I didn't drink enough water, I didn't use any kind of skincare regimen..I just washed my face and applied makeup. I didn't even use foundation very often back then.

l really didn't even think about my skin. Then I started to see the changes, it started slowly at first. There were fine lines here and there. Every expresion I had ever made (and I make many weird expressions when speaking) were starting to permanently show on my forehead and mouth. Shortly after the sun damage spots started appearing. It was the spots and discoloration that started to get nervous..My first step was the dermatologist. I wish you could have seen the look on her face when I told her I didn't use anything on my face. It looked like she wanted to throttle me.

She's the one that set me straight about proper skincare. The need for sunscreen, proper hydration, and at least 8 hours of sleep. She also told me about all of the environmental pollutants that damage our skin, the need for proper nutrition and a morning an evening skincare regimen using good products. (there weren't very many back then) She suggested a prescription brand that worked really well for a while, but I later decided to try other less expensive easier to buy products. (no doctor visits required) I found a brand that I was happy with and used it for years.

Then menopause came along, and a whole slew of other skin problems arose. You know the ones...Loss of elasticity, dryness

saggy skin and deep wrinkles. I felt like my face (along with the rest of me) had started to fall. Again I started looking for answers, again I was back to my dermatologist.

There are many really good skincare brands today.

This time I know what I'm looking for. I want to go with smaller name brands rather than the huge department store and box store labels.I want a product that does what it says, so I don't spend a small fortune on creams and serums only to throw them out because they don't work. Pretty packaging and hefty price tags mean nothing if the product itself doesn't work.

I want it to be affordable at a low to medium price point.

In January I started trying new brands to see what worked for me and what I liked best, I used each brand individually for 2-3 weeks to make sure it had enough time to do its thing. I still have a few more to try so there will be a part 2 to this piece. For now I'm going to tell you what I have tried so far. They are not in any particular order.

1) Science Serum

Firms and tightens the area around the eye to decrease fine lines, wrinkles and crow's feet in just 5 minutes.  TIGHTEYE™ also brightens and smooths the skin, making it the perfect product to use pre-makeup."

This statement stands true. You can see a significant difference after the first application. I used it as my eye makeup primer. I really liked how it felt when applying it and the difference it made in how my eye makeup looks.

Moisture eyes

"Proprietary medical grade, non-greasy, non-tacky formula quickly restores skin to healthy, moisturized condition"

This statement has also proven to be true. Tighteye works much better when you apply this after the Tight Eye application. The noticeable results from the combination lasted all day for me.

"Firms and brightens the area around the eye to decrease eye bags, and age spots in just 5 minutes.  BRIGHT & TIGHT™ also smooths the skin, making it the perfect product to use pre-makeup.

Also a true statement but I found using 3 products pre make up a bit much, so in order to get the best results from using all 3 I switched back and forth between Moisture Eye and Bright & Tight. I love them both, but I do not see the need for all 3 products in the morning.

"helps retain skin's youthful surface contours and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles."

Also true! This is an excellent product especially if you are a straw drinker, smoker, former smoker or if your lipstick tends to bleed. I don't fit into any of those categories, but I make huge facial expressions when speaking and most are with my mouth. This worked really well on the fine lines and wrinkles around my mouth.

2) Chamonix

This is an excellent brand that has been around for years. Many of their customers have been with them for 10 plus years and I may very well become one of them. I'm not going to give you a product by product breakdown on this one yet because I have ordered a couple of more products to try, so I will do a break down for you on the next skin care post. I have used the following so far..

Genucel dfs

Genucel face serum

Genucel plant stem therapy

Chamonix spa collection Cristalles (a microdermabrasion cream)

3) Whole Story

Natural finish tinted moisturiser

I have only used their Natural finish moisturiser so far and I couldn't be happier with it. I use it as my makeup primer. It helps my makeup glide on and has a very slight blurring effect that helps reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. I will also be trying other products of theirs and will give an item by item update on the next skincare blog.

I have been very happy with all of these brands and have tweaked their use just a little bit. I'm using Chamonix at night and Science Serum along with Whole Story in the mornings.

Have you tried any of these products?

Are there products you would like me to try and tell you about?

How do you feel about your current skincare products.

See you again soon!
